William Thomas Betts was born in 1898 in Ingham (Thingoe Q1-1898 4A:821), son of Robert William and Isabella Jane BETTS (née KING).

1901 census...Aged 3, he was at Neville Farm Cottages, Ingham with his father Robert W BETTS [34] shepherd born Whenhaston; his mother Isabella [31] born Leiston; sister Violet [7] and brother Christopher [5] both born Aldringham; brother Herbert H [9 months] born Ingham.

1911 census...Aged 13, farm labourer, he was at Nevill Farm Cottages, Ingham with his parents; brothers Christopher (shepherd's page) and Kitchener [10) (Herbert ?); sisters Florence [7] and Eleanor [5] both born Ingham. One sibling had died.

The pension card (1919) has his mother at Neville Cottage, Ingham but later has father at School Lane, Fornham St Martin.


He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds.

He was one of just two of his battery killed that day. So far not located their whereabouts at the time.
